Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Travel in comfort aboard our deluxe motorcoach enroute to Riverhead, New York, located on the tip of Long Island’s famous North Fork. We arrive mid-afternoon at the Vanderbilt Mansion, a 24-room mansion on Long Island’s Gold Coast. The rooms are as William Vanderbilt left them, filled with priceless art, furnishings and personal possessions. We spend the next three nights at the luxurious Hyatt Place. Tonight you will be our guests for a special dinner. (D)

Day 2: After a hearty continental breakfast, we meet our step-on guide and depart for a tour of the neighborhoods and villages on Long Island’s South Fork, including “The Hamptons,” known as the summer playground of the rich and famous. Famous residents include Jerry Seinfeld, Madonna, Calvin Klein, the Hiltons, Steven Spielberg, Kelly Ripa, Paul McCartney and more! Enjoy your “lifestyles of the rich and famous” tour as you view the homes, neighborhoods and towns where the rich and famous come to play and relax! We’ll include a photo stop at Coopers Beach, listed as one of the top 10 beaches in the United States! After a delicious luncheon, we make the short drive to Montauk Point, home of the Montauk Lighthouse. Take a self-guided tour of the oldest lighthouse in New York, which was commissioned by President George Washington. Feeling adventurous? Climb the 137 steps to the top of the tower and explore the exhibits in the “keeper’s house” museum. Later you will have some leisure time to explore the boutiques, galleries and restaurants in the quaint Village of Southampton. Enjoy shopping and dinner on your own before we return to our hotel for a good night’s rest. (B, L)

Day 3: After a hearty continental breakfast, we meet our step-on guide and depart for another day of sightseeing. We begin with a tour of Sag Harbor, hearing delightful stories about this important whaling village of the 1600s. Next we will tour the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, where we will view collections of whaling tools and artifacts, portraits of ships’ captains and their wives, 19th-century household items and antique toys. Next we will tour the Old Whaler’s Church, where the wives of sea captains went to pray for their safe return. After lunch on your own in Sag Harbor, we depart for Shelter Island, where we will travel by ferry to Long Island’s North Fork. Upon our arrival, enjoy a riding tour of Long Island’s North Fork. View the rural scenery on our drive through the agricultural region, where vineyards and farm stands flourish. Next we will tour Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard, a family owned grower of exceptional wine and a race horse rescue sanctuary. Enjoy a guided tour and hear the amazing stories about these beautiful horses, followed by a tasting of the vineyard’s distinctive wines. After returning to the mainland by ferry, we conclude our day with a delicious dinner at a restaurant that serves up great local flavors. (B, D)

Day 4: After a hearty continental breakfast, we depart for Westbury, New York and Old Westbury Gardens and Phipps Estate. Take a self-guided tour of the magnificent mansion furnished with fine English antiques and decorative arts and its formal gardens. Following our tour, we depart for home with a new appreciation of Long Island and many rich memories of our Gold Coast vacation! (B)
