Day 1: Celebrate the arrival of spring on a tour that features many of the south’s outstanding attractions. Our destination today is Myrtle Beach. From its sixty miles of wide, soft sandy beaches and an outstanding variety of entertainment, restaurant and attractions, Myrtle Beach has something for everyone. Tonight you will be our guests for dinner at a popular local restaurant. (D)
Day 2: This morning we tour Brookgreen Gardens. The Huntington Sculpture Garden has areas of vivid gardens, providing a magnificent setting for one of the most remarkable collections of sculpture in the world. We spend the afternoon at Barefoot Landing, a popular shopping destination before enjoying dinner and a show at the Alabama Theatre. (D)
Day 3: We travel along the coast to the Golden Isles of Georgia and a visit to Jekyll Island. We tour the island with a local guide and view Jekyll’s ten miles of sparkling beaches and oak-graced beauty. Our visit will include the famous Millionaires Village, which from the 1880’s until World War II was the playground of America’s richest citizens. Now owned by the state of Georgia, the historic district is one of the largest restorations in the South. This evening we have dinner at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 4: We depart for St. Simons Island to be introduced to a plantation era that flourished here under King Cotton from 1800 to the Civil War. We tour this lovely island in the morning before enjoying lunch on our own in the downtown area. We continue to Amelia Island in northern Florida. Upon arrival we climb aboard Amelia Island Carriages for a 30-minute narrated horse-drawn carriage tour. Learn about the history of Fernandina Beach and the landmarks in a 50 block downtown district, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Tonight, we go for a delicious dinner at Barbara JeanÕs overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway. (D)
Day 5: This morning we climb aboard the Amelia River Cruises for a narrated historic and wildlife sightseeing cruise that takes us along salt marshes, wilderness beaches and historic river banks. This unique cruise experience offers the opportunity to encounter dolphins, manatees, sea otters, the wild horses of Cumberland Island National Seashore and a wide variety of birds. The afternoon is free to experience the entertainment, restaurants, local stores and shops all located within walking distance of our hotel.
Day 6: This morning we travel to Savannah, where we embark on a city tour, where we experience the life of the Antebellum South with its rich and stately homes, preserved waterfront district and lovely gardens. Following our included lunch and some free time to explore on you own, we depart for Florence, SC, our home for the night. (L)
Day 7: Today we travel home, full of wonderful memories of the sights, entertainment and fantastic food on our southern getaway. We return home early evening.
