Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Our nation’s capital is never more beautiful than at the holidays. Join us as we spend three days exploring popular attractions as well as seasonal displays. Upon arrival, visit the U.S. Botanic Garden, one of the oldest botanical gardens in North America. This living plant museum was established by Congress in 1820 and is decorated with poinsettias for the holidays. Later in the afternoon you will meet your guide to depart for the Pageant of Peace in Ellipse Park across from the White House, site of nightly choral performances, a Nativity scene, the National Christmas Tree, and a spectacular display of lighted Christmas trees representing each state and territory of the United States. Later, we depart for the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to see a show on the Millennium Stage. Dinner this evening will be a popular restaurant in the area, after which you will check in to your hotel for a restful evening. (D)

Day 2: Enjoy a deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel, then meet your guide to depart for a visit to Mount Vernon, the estate of George Washington. Discover the real George Washington with an action-adventure movie, interactive exhibits, and more than 1,000 artifacts. You may also tour the restored mansion and its grounds. Mount Vernon is joyfully decking the halls for Christmas with themed decorations and admission to the rarely-seen third floor. After lunch on your own at the Mount Vernon Food Court, depart for a guided driving tour of Washington, which passes by Embassy Row and includes the White House Visitor’s Center enroute to the magnificent National Cathedral or the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception for a tour. After a delicious dinner in the area, you will enjoy Washington’s Festival of Lights, where you will experience over 250,000 lights and tree displays from around the world. Return to your hotel for a relaxing evening after your visit. (B, D)

Day 3: After a deluxe continental breakfast at the hotel, check out and depart for a tour of the memorials and monuments, including the National World War II Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Korean War Veterans Memorial, Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, which celebrates the powerful words of Dr. King. A delicious luncheon will be included today before we visit the National Harbor area to view “ICE!”, a holiday treat featuring elaborate ice sculptures brought to life in amazing detail and artistry. We return home early evening. (B, L)
