Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Travel through fall foliage enroute to Romney, West Virginia for a three-hour ride on the Potomac Eagle. This train rolls through a narrow mountain valley known as “The Trough.” The train travels through a very scenic area populated by bald eagles. A boxed lunch will be served on board. This afternoon we travel deep into the West Virginia mountains to the town of Elkins. Dinner is included at a popular local restaurant. (L, D)

Day 2: Following breakfast, we board the Cheat Mountain Salamander. This diesel locomotive leads us from Elkins to the High Falls of the Cheat River, a point literally five miles from the nearest road. It then follows the river another 21 miles across the mountaintop. At the bottom of the next mountain we find a steam locomotive, the Durbin Rocket. A boxed lunch will be served while enjoying another scenic ride along the Greenbrier River. Relax over dinner at the Rail Yard Restaurant before ending the day at the American Mountain Theatre Variety Show, featuring a two-hour show including country bluegrass and pop music. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Today we travel to the quiet valley of Green Bank. We visit the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, where they listen to radio waves from outer space. We travel to Cass, West Virginia, where we board the Cass Railroad for a two-hour excursion on the coal-fired Shey Locomotive followed by lunch at the depot. Dinner is included tonight. (B, L, D)

Day 4: We depart West Virginia this morning enroute to western Pennsylvania and the famous home built by Frank Lloyd Wright, Fallingwater. We tour the home and begin our journey home. We return late afternoon.
