Day 1: Travel to the lovely “Bay State” of Massachusetts that features many of the highlights of this historic state. We travel to Springfield today and tour the Norman Rockwell Museum, where we browse the many galleries and view the largest collection of original art by America’s most beloved illustrator. Dinner is included tonight. (D)
Day 2: We travel to Boston and tour the historic sites that make Boston famous, such as the Boston Common, Old Granary Burial Ground, Bunker Hill and more. Following lunch on your own at Quincy Market, we tour Boston’s North End, steeped in both Italian-American and Colonial Era history. See the Paul Revere House, Old North Church and the famous Paul Revere statue. Dinner will be included tonight at a popular local restaurant. (B, D)
Day 3: We tour Salem this morning and learn about the famous 1692 witchcraft trials that consumed this New England sea-side village. We drive past the House of Seven Gables as well as elaborate sea captains’ homes. We travel along the scenic coast to Rockport, at the very tip of Cape Ann. We take time for lunch on your own and browse the many galleries and boutiques filled with handmade crafts. We then board the tallship Schooner Thomas E. Lannon and experience an exciting sail aboard the 65-foot schooner from Gloucester Harbor. Help the crew hoist the sails or sit back and enjoy the ocean breeze and amazing sights. Dinner tonight is at the famous Gloucester House Restaurant, serving the freshest seafood. (B, D)
Day 4: We stop in “America’s Hometown”, Plymouth, located on a scenic waterfront. You can view Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II. We continue to Wood’s Hole Harbor and cruise to Martha’s Vineyard, known as the “Storybook Island.” We will see the famous Gingerbread Houses, Island Tabernacle and views of well-known residents’ homes. We also explore Edgartown filled with its many shops, eateries and extraordinary views of the Atlantic Ocean. Dinner will be included on the island tonight. (B, D)
Day 5: We travel from Hyannis to the very tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown. We travel Old King’s Highway dotted with historic Cape Cod architecture and New England Inns. See historic windmills, the giant dunes of Tyro and visit the Cape Cod Seashore Visitors Center, focusing on the interesting natural history of this unique area. We have time for lunch in Provincetown and then follow the trail winding through Cape Cod as we see and hear about the area’s historic lighthouses. Our final stop is Captain Bangs Hallet House – a Greek Revival house that was home to two deep water captains. Our day concludes with a fabulous New England lobster dinner, complete with entertainment. (B, D)
Day 6: Our Bay State Adventure is winding down, but before we travel home, we tour one of the area’s largest cranberry growing areas. We take a bog tour and see the working bog and learn the many uses of this nutritional berry. We return home early evening. (B)
