Day 1: Christmas in Virginia is all about tradition, family, food and fun. Enjoy a million brilliant lights at Richmond’s botanical gardens, visit a James River Plantation, feast on holiday dinners and wonder at the Grand Illumination and fireworks in Williamsburg. Our first visit is to historic Mt. Vernon, the home of George Washington. Mt. Vernon will be decorated for the season and is sure to be a highlight of our trip. We continue to Richmond, VA, where we savor a delicious dinner at one of Richmond’s favorite dining spots. We later visit Ginter Botanical Gardens, lit up for Christmas with more than a million twinkling points of light. We will take an evening stroll through the Conservatory and across the rolling and illuminated landscape. (D)
Day 2: We tour Shirley Plantation, Virginia’s oldest plantation. The Carter family still lives there and welcomes us to experience the house and grounds Christmas-style with a cool Yule tour. We continue to Williamsburg and give you free time for lunch and shopping at Merchants Square. This afternoon a guide will take us on a walk down Duke of Gloucester Street into the Historic District of Williamsburg for a guided exploration of Colonial Williamsburg’s buildings and Christmas decorations. We later visit Busch Gardens, transformed for the Christmas holiday into Christmas Town. The park is aglow with more than 8 million Christmas lights – the largest display in North America. A delicious dinner will be included before we return to our hotel. (B, D)
Day 3: We travel to Yorktown and tour the American Revolution Museum, where we recount America’s struggle for independence through compelling exhibits and a “4-D” film Liberty Fever. Lunch will be on your own at Riverwalk Landing, located on the picturesque York River. We enjoy an early dinner before attending the festivities of Williamsburg’s Grand Illumination. Music, spectacular fireworks and lights of the “crescents” ring in the holidays in a nighttime spectacular. (B, D)
Day 4: We return home today, arriving late afternoon filled with the memories of our Virginia holiday getaway. (B)
