Day 1: Travel to the scenic and historic Hudson Valley, where we will see many interesting attractions as well as spectacular scenery. We travel up the Hudson River to the historic West Point Military Academy, where we learn about the important figures in our country who attended West Point and the vast history of this institution. We will be treated to a luncheon at a local restaurant. We spend the night in Poughkeepsie. (L)
Day 2: We travel to Hyde Park and tour Springwood, Franklin Roosevelt’s home and America’s first Presidential Library. Lunch will be a special affair at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the students at America’s premier culinary school. Next, we visit the Vanderbilt Mansion. The home’s architecture is reminiscent of a French chateau with Italian gardens and has spectacular views of the Hudson River. Before returning home, we make a stop at the Walkway over the Hudson, an abandoned railroad bridge that is now a pedestrian walkway. (B, L)
Day 3: We continue into the Catskill Mountains, where we board the Rip Van Winkle Flyer for a wonderful train ride through the East Branch Valley into the Catskill Mountains with breathtaking views of the fall foliage. We enjoy lunch on the train while dining in the Dome Car, then we return home in the evening filled with the memories of our Hudson Valley adventure. (B, L)
