Day 1: We travel today to Mystic, CT, on a tour to explore the coastal towns of Mystic, Newport and Block Island. We arrive after lunch and have free time to explore Old Mystic Village, where you can browse through their many shops. Tonight you will be our guests for dinner at a popular local restaurant. (D)
Day 2: Enter the “Age of Sail” as we tour Mystic Seaport, a world- famous maritime museum featuring a true seaport village, exhibit halls and historical interpreters. This quintessential New England experience offers a wonderful link for our seafaring past as we experience the lifestyle and artifacts of life in a New England sailing port. Visit the Cooperage, learn about ship building, board a New England Tall Ship and discover the dangers of whaling aboard the Charles W. Morgan. We then board our catamaran for a cruise featuring famous lighthouses. A boxed lunch will be served on board as we view the New London Harbor Light and the Watch Hill Light. We will cruise past New London’s historic waterfront, home to the United States Coast Guard Academy. Tonight you will be our guests at a fabulous New England Lobster Dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 3: We depart Mystic today and travel to Point Judith where we take our ferry to remote Block Island. Your guided island tour includes panoramic views, pristine beaches, historic lighthouses, Mohegan Bluffs jutting 290 feet above the sea, New England Inns and a wonderful lunch at a popular local restaurant. Free time will be given to explore the many shops in the village. We return by ferry to the mainland and travel to our overnight destination of Seekona, MA. (B, L)
Day 4: Enter the world of the Vanderbilts, Astors and the wealthiest of gilded-age tycoons as we travel to Newport’s fabulous Belleview Avenue, peppered with stunning mansions and gardens. Take in the rugged beauty of Ten-Mile Ocean Drive featuring magnificent ocean views and historic Fort Adams. Hear about Newport’s rich yachting history, major winners of the coveted American’s Cup since 1930. We then enjoy fabulous scenery and food, on the Newport & Narragansett Bay Railroad. Feast on your lunch as you take in sweeping views of Newport’s picturesque Narragansett Bay with its many vistas including sailing ships, natural rocky beaches, historic mansions, islands, Quonset Point, wonderful marine wildlife and the prestigious Newport Naval Academy. Tour through Rosecliff Mansion, a sumptuous 1902 mansion built for the Nevada silver heiress, “Tessie” Fair Oelrichs. This mansion is best known for the French architecture and marvelous socials attended by the rich and famous. Take time for dinner at Brick Marketplace, a beautiful sea-side marketplace located on Newport Harbor, filled with shops, attractions, and restaurants. (B, L)
