Day 2: After an included full breakfast, travel to mid-coast Maine. We first take a narrated Boothbay Harbor cruise. See the beautiful islands, lighthouses and vacation homes that dot the coastline – and perhaps view some seals out on the ledges. Have lunch on your own in Boothbay Harbor, with its many restaurants and quaint shops along the bustling waterfront. Sit back and relax for your ride along the coast to Bar Harbor. Check in to the Atlantic Eyrie Lodge for a two-night stay. Dinner included at a nearby restaurant this evening. (B, D)
Day 3: After an included deluxe continental breakfast, you’ll spend the day exploring Mt. Desert Island. Meet your local guide for a morning tour of Acadia National Park. See the breathtaking beauty that has attracted the elite to this area for years. The views from the top of Cadillac Mountain are spectacular. You’ll also see the carriage roads built by the Rockefellers, stop at Thunder Hole and visit the cottages built by the rich and famous summer visitors. Enjoy lunch on your own in Bar Harbor, with many casual restaurants to choose from in this harbor village. This afternoon, you’ll tour the Bar Harbor Oceanarium, where you’ll hear a talk about lobster fishing at the Maine Lobster Museum and see the baby lobsters at the Maine Lobster Hatchery. Don your souvenir Maine Lobster Hat for a traditional Maine lobster bake dinner tonight in a casual setting overlooking Hulls Cove. You’ll want to bring your appetite for this feast! (B, D)
Day 4: After a deluxe continental breakfast, make your way south along the coast to Rockland, the lobster capital of Maine. On the way, you’ll take a guided tour of the Rockport/Camden area with your local guide. Hear the local lore and legends of this area and take a ride to the top of Mt. Battie at Camden Hills State Park, where the mountains meet the sea. Then attend the 72nd Annual Maine Lobster Festival along the Rockland harbor front, where lobster is king! Festivities include costumes, music and entertainment and, of course, feasting on hot Maine lobster, lobster rolls and other fresh seafood delicacies at your leisure for lunch on your own today. Watch a variety of talents from lobster trap building to fishing demonstrations, visit the craft tents and other local highlights including tours of a Navy ship docked at the waterfront park, plus enjoy amusing photo opportunities with King Neptune, the festival’s mascot. Depart Rockland in the mid-afternoon and make your way to Maine’s south coast region. Stop in Freeport, home to the flagship L.L. Bean store, on your way south. Check in to the Clarion Hotel, one of Greater Portland’s hotels. This full-service hotel has an indoor pool, restaurant and lounge. Lobster choice dinner included at a local seafood restaurant with several landlubber menu options as well. (B, D)
