Day 1: Take in the colors of the changing leaves as we travel to Rutland, VT for a two-night stay. Enroute we visit the Apple Barn and Country Bake Shop, where we tour the orchard and visit the wonderful bake shop. Dinner is included tonight. (D)
Day 2: Our day begins with a visit to the Morgan Horse Farm. We watch an introductory video about the farm followed by a guided tour of this historic site including the barn and horse-training area. We continue to scenic Lake Champlain were we board the Ethan Allen for a luncheon cruise on the lake. The rich hues of fall will surround us with great views of both the Adirondack and Green Mountains. Enjoy a complete hot and cold buffet as we take in the stunning views. We later visit Ben & Jerry’s for a visit to this famous ice cream facility. We travel over scenic Route 100, cutting through the backbone of Vermont with spectacular mountain vistas around every corner. Dinner at a popular local restaurant will be included tonight. (B, L, D)
Day 3: We drive through one of New Hampshire’s most scenic passages, Franconia Notch, where shear rock will reach up to the sky. Our first stop today is Fadden’s Country Store, boasting syrup worthy of being named the best in North America. We continue to Sugar Hill Outlook for a breath-taking photo op of hillsides ablaze with color. Next we tour the Rocks Estate, perched on pristine mountainous terrain. This large estate encompasses a huge Christmas tree farm, maple sugar house and production and more. We will also learn about the interesting lives of the moose and bears of New Hampshire. Our final attraction of the day will be a mountain train ride through the majestic White Mountains. Munch on samples of New Hampshire made and grown products as we ride the rails through passes and notches with grand mountain vistas and amazing foliage. Dinner will be included tonight in the Waterville Valley area. (B, D)
Day 4: Another day of spectacular fall foliage travel finds us arriving at the Loon Mountain Skyride, where our gondola will carry us up to the top of Loon Mountain for an extraordinary view of the White Mountains. We then travel the Kancamagus Highway, New Hampshire’s most scenic roadway enroute to North Conway Village. You will have free time to explore one of New Hampshire’s most charming villages. Check out the cafes, Austrian-style train station, shops and even a famous New England country store. This afternoon we travel to the top of Mount Washington and enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience to the very top of New England’s tallest peak at 6,228 feet! Your “stage driver” will enlighten you from base to summit with anecdotes, history and insight into the ecological wonder of Mount Washington, not to mention the incredible vistas enroute. Tonight we relax over a farewell dinner at the historic Woodstock Inn, concluding our remarkable day of fall foliage. (B, D)
Day 5: We bid farewell to New England and begin our return journey home. We return early evening. (B)
