Day 1: Travel to lovely Newport, Rhode Island on a new tour that will showcase this historic vacation retreat. Amid its sandy beaches and amazing coastlines, touring Newport is like going back in time when Newport was the retreat of the rich and famous. We arrive early afternoon and tour the Marble House Mansion. We tour this sumptuous Vanderbilt-owned mansion built with 500,000 cubic feet of American, Italian and African marble. You will be able to stroll the grounds, complete with a lovely Chinese Tea House. Dinner will be included tonight. (D)
Day 2: Enter the world of Vanderbilts, Astors and the wealthiest of Gilded Age tycoons as we travel Newport’s famous Bellevue Avenue, peppered with stunning mansions and gardens. We take in the rugged beauty of Ten-Mile Ocean Drive featuring magnificent ocean views and historic Fort Adams. We then enjoy lunch on the Newport Railroad. Feast on your lunch as we take in sweeping views of Newport’s picturesque Narragansett Bay with its many vistas, including sailing ships, rocky beaches, historic mansions and the prestigious Newport Naval Academy. Later we tour Rosecliff Mansion, known as the “Great Gatsby House.” This mansion is best known for it’s French architecture and marvelous socials attended by the rich and famous. Dinner will be on your own at the Brick Marketplace, filled with shops, attractions and restaurants (B, L)
Day 3: We begin our day touring the Breakers Mansion, where we enjoy a guided tour through the largest of Newport’s mansions. The exquisite Vanderbilt mansion is perched overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We will give you free time on the Cliff Walk, a world-famous coastal walkway featuring the natural beauty of Newport’s shoreline. Lunch will be on your own at Bowen’s Wharf, filled with shops and fabulous views. This afternoon we step into the elegant Hotel Viking for an afternoon tea at their hidden gem of a restaurant. Enjoy decadent tea sandwiches and scones while sipping on tea in your sophisticated surroundings. Tonight we attend the Newport Playhouse Dinner Theatre featuring a lavish buffet and a current comedy. (B, D)
Day 4: We depart Newport this morning but first board the “Rum Runner II” and cruise swiftly and safely through the local waters of Newport on an adventurous sightseeing cruise, while sipping a mimosa and enjoying a croissant. We return home early evening. (B)
