Day 1: We travel to Middletown, CT and spend the next three nights at a classic New England Inn that blends old-world colonial style with the contemporary. Nestled in the scenic Connecticut River Valley, the Inn is located in an 1800’s era building on a Main Street that is surrounded by many charming shops, boutiques and restaurants. Tonight we enjoy dinner at the Inn. (D)

Day 2: We begin our day touring the USS Nautilus Memorial and Submarine Museum. Visit the nation’s displays and collections of America’s submarine heritage and tour the world’s first nuclear powered submarine, the USS Nautilus. An included lunch at the Griswold Inn is sure to be a highlight. Nestled on the shores of the Connecticut River in the seaport village of Essex, the Griswold Inn opened its doors in 1776 and has been serving travelers since then. Our final adventure for the day is a dual trip aboard the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. Depart from the historic Essex Station for a ride through the beautiful countryside aboard a true steam train with vintage rail cars. Then, hop on the steamboat for great sites including the historic Goodspeed Opera House, the majestic Gillette Castle, flora, fauna, wildlife and more. Another delicious dinner at the Inn concludes our day. (B, L, D)

Day 3: We begin our day with a visit to the Green Animals Topiary Garden, one of the best topiary gardens in the country. View over 80 sculptured trees and shrubs including 21 delightful animals shapes. We also tour the Brayton House and enjoy the beautiful ocean views. Lunch will be on your own at Brick Marketplace, located on beautiful Newport Harbor. We next enjoy a guided tour of Newport, as we enter the world of the Vanderbilts, Astors and the wealthiest of gilded age tycoons as we travel Newport’s fabulous Bellevue Avenue, peppered with stunning mansions and gardens. We take in the rugged beauty of Ten-Mile Ocean Drive featuring magnificent ocean views and historic Fort Adams. Later this afternoon we enjoy a narrated cruise of Newport Harbor viewing such sites as Newport’s mansions, Jackie Kennedy’s summer home and the towering Newport Bridge. Dinner is included tonight. Day 4: We travel to the Hyannis area and arrive in time to cruise the Cape Cod Canal. Pass by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Gray Gables, Cape Cod Bay and Scenic Taylor Point. Tonight we dine aboard the Cape Cod Central Railroad. Soak in the ambiance while a delicious five course dinner is prepared and served in style. While feasting, enjoy the scenery… Cape Cod cranberry bogs, natural woodlands, ocean views and the majestic Cape Cod Canal Waterway. (B, D)

Day 5: We begin our return trip home but enroute we visit the Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich. The museum features galleries of American Folk Art, gardens, sweeping lawns once a world-class collection of antique automobiles. We return home early evening. (B)
