Where will we go? What will we see? If we told you too much, it would not be a mystery....would it? What we can tell…
When: October 14 – 16
Length: 3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS

Day 1: Sit back and relax as we travel to Western Pennsylvania on an enjoyable three-day get-away. Upon arrival, we visit the Heinz History Center, where we find many exhibits on the history of Pittsburgh, western PA sports team and much more. We ride to the top of the Duquesne Incline, a century-old funicular, one of the few left in the nation. Dinner will be included at the popular LeMont Restaurant. We spend the next two nights in a local hotel. (D)
Day 2: We embark on a Pittsburgh city tour including stops at the University of Pittsburgh Nationality Rooms and Heinz Chapel. In the magnificent Cathedral of Learning, we tour some of the classrooms designated and built by area ethnic groups that helped settle Pittsburgh. This afternoon we tour Clayton, the historic home of steel magnet Henry Clay Frick. We will marvel at the Victorian architecture and the many original furniture pieces. We also tour the Car and Carriage Museum and travel back to the time of carriages, see some of the first horseless carriages to have an impact on Pittsburgh, and learn about Pittsburgh’s role in the development of the auto industry. Our day is not over, though, as we relax on a delightful dinner cruise on one of the Gateway Clipper vessels. (B, D)
Day 3: We check out and then visit the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, a steel and glass Victorian greenhouse that has showcased the beauty and mysteries of plants since 1895. We return home late afternoon. (B)
