Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Travel through flaming fall foliage as we journey to Portland, Maine’s largest city by the sea. A buffet dinner is included tonight. (D)

Day 2: Enjoy an included full breakfast this morning before meeting your local guide for a narrated tour of Portland. Stop at nearby Portland Head Lighthouse for a photo opportunity of this classic Maine lighthouse. Travel to Freeport, home to the L.L. Bean flagship store and a myriad of outlet shops and restaurants. Lunch will be on your own with time for shopping. Then sit back and relax for your drive along the coast “down east” to the Bar Harbor area. Dinner is included at a nearby restaurant. (B, D)

Day 3: A deluxe continental breakfast is included this morning. Bar Harbor has been celebrated for its breathtaking beauty ever since the island was discovered in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain. This morning, enjoy a one-hour horse-drawn carriage ride along the park carriage roads built by John D Rockefeller, Jr. You’ll travel through some of Acadia’s off-the-beaten-track scenic areas. Then meet your local guide for a tour of Acadia National Park. Free time for lunch on your own in Bar Harbor with time to explore the shops, boutiques and galleries. This afternoon, tour the Bar Harbor Oceanarium. Enjoy an entertaining and educational presentation on lobstering and tour the Maine Lobster Hatchery where the baby lobsters are raised. Lobster choice dinner is included this evening at your return from “down east.” (B, D)

Day 4: Your local guide will meet you at the hotel for your day trip “down east” to Lubec and Campobello Island. In Columbia Falls, make a rest stop at Wreaths Across America Museum, which profiles the wreath-laying ceremonies that take place each December at Arlington National Cemetery. Travel along the coast to Lubec, the first U.S. town to see the sun rise as the easternmost point in the country. Cross the International bridge (passport/passcards required) to Franklin Roosevelt’s beloved Campobello Island, located in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. Inside Roosevelt Campobello International Park, you’ll see a 15-minute film telling the story of Roosevelt’s “beloved island” and view exhibits with historic family and island photos. Then go back in history by touring the 34-room “cottage” occupied 1905-1921 by the Franklin D. Roosevelt family. A box lunch is included at the park. On your way back to Bar Harbor, stop for coffee and blueberry pie in Machias, the wild blueberry capital of Maine. Don your souvenir Maine lobster hat for a traditional Maine lobster bake dinner with all the fixin’s. (B, L, D)

Day 5: After an included deluxe continental breakfast, you’ll travel back through mid-coast Maine toward the Boston area. Have your camera ready for a photo stop atop Mt. Battie within the beautiful Camden Hills State Park, where you’ll see sweeping views of Penobscot Bay and the surrounding islands. We continue to the suburbs of Boston, where we spend the night. (B, D)

Day 6: We visit the historic city of Boston, where we enjoy a morning harbor cruise. Free time will be given for lunch on your own at famous Quincy Market. We return home in the evening. (B)
